School system

I want to tell you something about the differences between the German and the Danish school system.

In Germany you attend school (the first class), when you are 6/7 years old. In Denmark you start in the 0th class. Then you stay til the 9th grade on the „Folkeskole“. In Germany every federal state is a little bit different. In Saxony (Germany) you stay on the „Grundschule“ from the 1st to the 4th grad. Then you can decide between „Gymnasium“ and „Oberschule“. The „Oberschule“ is from the 5th to the 10th grade. The „Gymnasium“ is from the 5th to the 12th grade. The last two grades follow a course system. So you are learning in different groups. After the 12th grad you will get the the A level. In Denmark you change the school after the 9th grade. Then you could decide if you want to go to the „Efterskole“, „10 Klasse“ or to the „Gymansie“. „Efterskole“ is a school, where you live. You can come home on the weekends and in the holidays. Normally this school has a special education, for example acting, music, natural sciences… If I understand it correctly you could start there already in the 7th grade. Then you will life and learn there for three years. But I am not sure in this point. The „10Klasse“ is only one year. There everything is really relaxed. You repeat things from the earlier classes. After „Folkeskole“, „Efterskole“ and „10 Klasse“ you can go to the „Gymnasie“. The „Gymnasie“ takes three years. I am at the moment in the 1.g. That is the first class on the gymnasium. In my opinion the „Gymnasie“ is the same as 11th and 12th grade in Germany, It is just more relaxed, because you have three years instead of two.

In Denmark you work mostly with your computer. If I want to see my homework I take my computer. I also take my notes with the computer. If you are ill you could look into the class notes and then you know, what happened in the lesson. Sometimes you have to write a test with hand. In Germany we don’t use the computer (only in IT-lesson). →I think it would be really good, if you combine the German and the Danish school system. In Germany you need the possibility to write with the computer and see homework and notes online. I don’t forget my homework here, because I could see it online. In Germany I forget to write my homework down in school. I know that there are some children, that could write better with computer, but there are also some, that could write better with hand. But when the teacher writes the notes by computer, the students could decide by their self. Denmark needs the possibility to write with hand. Because some students are faster with hand and have also more structure.

In Denmark we have some „Aflevering“. This is homework. It takes between two and four hours. There are a lot of tasks and you have to hand it in. But you don’t get grades. The teacher just tells you, what you did in a wrong way and he also knows, what he should repeat before the next test. I like it, but sometimes it is a little bit too much. In Germany you have only normal homework. It could sometimes be a little bit more. And if the teacher wants to collect it, he could do it.

In Germany we get grades from 1 to 6. The best grade is 1 and the worst 6. In Denmark you have the grades: -03; 00; 2; 4; 7; 10; 12. The best grade is 12 and the worst -03.

In Denmark you could choose some subjects. In my „Folkeskole“ you could choose a subject, that you have once in two weeks. In my „Gymansie“ we could choose a language (French, Spanish, German) and a creative subject (art, music, drama). In Germany you could choose a language in the 6th grade. In my school in Germany I could choose between French, Latin and Russian.

In Denmark and Germany you learn English. In Denmark you start with German, in the 5th (?) grade. In Germany you choose a language in the 6th grade.

In Germany we name our teachers with the family name. In Denmark you take the first name. It is nice, because the relationship to the teachers is really close. But sometimes the students aren’t respectful. But that is only a little problem. You could learn better, if the relationship is close.

The school in Denmark starts after 8 o’clock and you have also lessons, where you could make your homework. So you could sleep a little bit longer and be more concentrated. In Germany the school starts between 7.30 and 8.00. You have to make all your homework at home.

I think Denmark has a really good school system and Germany should copy some parts of it. But I also think, that you could change something in Denmark, to make it better.

Short information

I try to write in the next days a short summary about the danish and german school system. I think I don’t write so much in the evening. Today was normal. School, christmas calender etc.

Weekend in the north

We visited my grandparents on the weekend. Yesterday evening were a big bonfire. After it we ate a lot of wafers. And today we came home again. So I did my homework and chilled.

Snow?

In the afternoon, it was raining. Or snowing? It was definitely really strange.

Folk dance

Vi danser folkedans i dag i idræt. Det var sjov.

We danced folk dance in sport today. It was funny.

Night

Jeg elsker himlen om natten. Stjernerne er så smuk.

I love the sky in the night. The stars are beautiful.

Ich liebe den Nachthimmel. Die Sterne sind wunderscholl. (wunderschön+toll)

I visited a german christmas service today. It was really nice at hear german christmassongs. And we ate german sweets.

Sleep long

Every second monday can I sleep long, because I don’t have to go to the german lesson. My teacher said, I shound only come if I want to.
